What’s your REACTion to the the new call for projects?

The @pmstudio have just released their new theme for the 3rd in a series of REACT hub commissioning themes. This time it’s all about the

Documentary.

When that email came in I almost shat’ myself, the title looks so like “Democracy“, which would have been a great chance to get Mr George Ferguson some new South West ideas for all his town planning & budget cuts needs. @clarered is there going to be a democracy React Hub…. please?

If you’re unfamiliar with the REACT hub series, it’s a simple idea. Attach some money to a theme, we’ve had Heritage and Books so far, then pair up University researchers with local artists and get them to pitch their best idea to the @pmstudio, the friendly dragons of future tech/art.

Each series will see 6 ideas funded made into a prototype, whether it’s art, an experience or a new business service and the work blogged and shown off at a final event.

Realistically, it’s a very good process to get money straight into UK innovation of the best ideas and not so much the “dead hand of the government”. It doesn’t demand or even ask that every pitched idea makes you billions of pounds, but will it expand your business, is there value to it?

For more details, you gotta’ book up on their Event Brite also, the details are below the fold,

Register Now: Future Documentary Ideas Labs

The internet, user generated content and changing audience expectations have all disrupted what we understand by traditional documentary media. REACT’s Future Documentary Sandbox scheme will fund collaborations between academics and companies that explore the overlap between broadcast and the internet, creating new forms and content for the documentary space.
